  • Each substance has its own Shipping Name
  • The most specific shipping name for the product is selected from just fewer than 3000 names that appear in Schedules 1 & 3 of the Regulations
  • Schedule 1 lists all of the shipping names in numerical order based on each substance’s corresponding UN number
  • Schedule 3 is an alphabetical index of the shipping names and can be used to reference a product when the UN number is not known
    o The shipping name for some dangerous goods is easy to find
    o Some items can be found under more than one name (but they share the same UN Number)
    o Since you have to use the most accurate name that appears in the list, you must not describe a product by its trade name, such as Tilex
