  • The consignor is the person who ensures certain obligations have been satisfied
  • Consignment can be part of someone’s everyday job or a one-time occurrence

The consignor must:

  • Determine the classification
  • Select the appropriate packaging
  • Complete a shipping document
  • Mark and label packages
  • Provide placards, if necessary

The carrier must:

  • Check shipment before accepting
  • Load goods properly
  • Ensure safety marks remain displayed during transport
  • Attach placards, if necessary

If a discharge, escape, accident or spill involving dangerous goods occurs during any phase of transport, the person responsible for the dangerous goods at that time is required for reporting the incident.
