Consignor and Carrier Responsibilities

- The consignor is the person who ensures certain obligations have been satisfied
- Consignment can be part of someone’s everyday job or a one-time occurrence
The consignor must:
- Determine the classification
- Select the appropriate packaging
- Complete a shipping document
- Mark and label packages
- Provide placards, if necessary
The carrier must:
- Check shipment before accepting
- Load goods properly
- Ensure safety marks remain displayed during transport
- Attach placards, if necessary
- Transport and deliver document with the shipment
If a discharge, escape, accident or spill involving dangerous goods occurs during any phase of transport, the person responsible for the dangerous goods at that time is required for reporting the incident.
