- At or before the time another carrier or a person takes possession of the dangerous goods, the carrier must provide the receiver with a copy of the shipping document and any additional required documents or electronic copies
- The regulations require that the Consignor and Carrier of the dangerous goods retain these documents for two years after the date the shipping document was prepared (the consignor) or after the date the dangerous goods are no longer in transport (the carrier)
- Keep in mind the definition of “Consignor” and the responsibilities that come with it for document retention if you are the “importer” (therefore the consignor) of the dangerous goods
