- Before Dangerous Goods can be transported or offered for transport they must be classified
- The Manufactures or those who create products containing dangerous goods must first do this
- Anyone who re-ships dangerous goods, thereby becoming the “consignor” is also responsible for its classification
o Often, the shipping documents with the goods will have this information
o If the information is not with the goods, the manufacturer will need to be contacted directly - In some cases, a “Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)” is sent out by the manufacturer or supplier with the goods that contains the necessary information to determine the classification
