Before Dangerous Goods can be transported or offered for transport they must be classified
The Manufactures or those who create products containing dangerous goods must first do this
Anyone who re-ships dangerous goods, thereby becoming the “consignor” is also responsible for its classification
o Often, the shipping documents with the goods will have this information
o If the information is not with the goods, the manufacturer will need to be contacted directly
In some cases, a “Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)” is sent out by the manufacturer or supplier with the goods that contains the necessary information to determine the classification
