  • There are two divisions in Class 5
  • 5.1 Oxidizer
o Can cause or contribute to the combustion of other material by yielding oxygen even if the product itself is not combustible
o Packing Group Criteria can be found in TDGR 2.25
  • 5.2
o Thermally unstable organic compounds that contain the bivalent “-O-O-“ chemical bond
o Liable to self-accelerating chemical separation that produces heat  (exothermic decomposition)
o May have one or more of the following characteristics:
    – Burns rapidly
    – Sensitive to impact or friction
    – Reacts dangerously with other substances
    – Liable to explosive decomposition
    – Causes damage to the eyes
o No Packing Groups assigned for air transport
o TDGR 2.25 (3) Class 5.2 are assigned to PG II for surface transport
