There are two divisions in Class 5:

5.1 Oxidizer

Can cause or contribute to the combustion of other material by yielding oxygen even if the product itself is not combustible;

Packing Group Criteria can be found in TDGR 2.25

No Packing Groups assigned for air transport.

TDGR 2.25 (3) Class 5.2 are assigned to PG II for surface transport.

5.2 Organic Peroxides

– Thermally unstable organic compounds that contain the bivalent “-O-O-“ chemical bond.

– Liable to self-accelerating chemical   separation that produces heat (exothermic   decomposition).

– May have one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Burn rapidly.
  • Sensitive to impact or friction.
  • React dangerously with other substances.
  • Liable to explosive decomposition.
  • Cause damage to the eyes.
