- The regulations require that the Consignor and Carrier of the dangerous goods retain a copy of the shipping document and any additional documents required by the regulations for a period of two years after the date the shipping document was prepared (the consignor) or after the date the dangerous goods are no longer in transport (the carrier).
- Electronic copies may be kept on file.
- Keep in mind the definition of “Consignor” and the responsibilities that come with it for document retention if you are the “importer” (therefore the consignor) of the dangerous goods.
