- The last step in classifying a dangerous good for transport is the addition of the UN Number. It is a four-digit number that is preceded with “UN” (United Nations). The same four-digit number is generally recognized around the world to describe a product even though the shipping name may change to fit each country’s language. Gasoline is shipped as “Essence” in France and “Petrol” in Great Britain while still retaining the UN1203.
